Organised by Kunsthal Extra City
In ‘Giving Birth’ by filmmaker Fatou Kandé Senghor, we follow ceramicist Seyni Awa Camara (1945), whose work ‘Anare Agnilie’ is currently on view as part of the group exhibition ‘Radically Naive / Naively Radical’.
Camara grew up in a family of ceramicists, but her practice consists of autonomous sculptural works rather than utilitarian products. Despite her artistic fame and financial success, she lives almost isolated in a small village in the Casamance region of Senegal. This documentary is one of the few testimonials that reveals the complexities of the extravagant artist.
