___________
A research team coordinated by Koen Brams studied the history of the alternative art center A 37 90 89 (May 1989-January 1970), initiated by a heterogenous group of artists, collectors, gallerists and other parties involved in the Belgian and international art scene. Launched by Kasper König and with great involvement by artists like Carl Andre, Marcel Broodthaers, James Lee Byars and Panamarenko the alternative art centre became a vibrant place for encounter and international artistic life, such that it left its marks on the Antwerp art world in spite of its short existence.
The results of the research about the legendary alternative art center A 37 90 89 (May 1989-January 1970) are shown to the public between 6 and 27 November 2015 in Extra City Kunsthal. Lectures, debates, panel discussions, screenings and a brief documentary exhibition guide you through the history and the broad program of the Antwerp art institute - from performances, film screenings to antiracist actions. Four evenings will introduce you to the multifaceted character of the 'golden house', a slice of the rich artistic history of Antwerp.
