BRDG goes to Extra City – a sound performance by Giorgos Axiotis (ikv BRDG #31)

Taking as a subject the (BRDG) bridge in Antwerp Giorgos Axiotis will carry out a sonic investigation of this building structure that he will present live in a set at the space of Extra City Kunsthal. The bridge as an architectural device is a basic component of the infrastructure of movement, meant to articulate and reproduce the continuity of urban flows. The notion of flow will be explored through free form improvisation, live sampling, cut ups, stereo transitions, diffusions and real time synthesis. The spatial dislocation and transfer of the sonic qualities of one building structure into another moves beyond the mere interaction and connection of these two physically disjointed positions into a more diverse and ephemeral content. Ultimately this sonic investigation points to a condition were flows are characterized by fragmentation, contrasts and variations, collisions, quick accelerations and deceleration.

Giorgos Axiotis works mainly on instant composition through the treatment and manipulation of real time sound events that have a firm base on visceral and extended improvised techniques. The resulting compositions range from free-form noise to rapid changing rhythms and from drone soundscapes to thick textured sound collages.

He has released extensively and is an active member of Balinese Beast, Free Piece of Tape, Holefold and Tom Cruisin. Recently under the name Turbo Teeth he explores mutant aspects of dance music through dysfunctional and fast tempo sliding cut up rhythms. His latest output under this name are due early 2016 with a 12” EP from Untitled-1 and mid 2016 with a 12” EP from Phase! and Mafia records.
