Opening Silent Times

25.10.2024, 18:00 — 23:00 Opening

We cordially invite you to the opening of Silent Times on Friday, October 25th. Stop by to discover video installations by Basir Mahmood and former MORPHO resident Younes Zarhoni, as well as photographic works by artist duo Adam Broomberg & Rafael Gonzalez and Taysir Batniji. The opening begins at 6 p.m. and coincides with the next BORGER Nocturne.

What if words fail us? When does something become ineffable? In times where countries are involved in geopolitical power plays, the voice of the individual is silenced. Silent witnesses, erased instructions, obliterated testimonies – the absence of words can sometimes be a relief, but most often it's a foreboding prelude. Silent Times is a profound reflection on silence and looks at the absence of words, voices and political representation in contemporary art practices.

This is just the beginning! Starting in January, we will roll out an exciting public programme featuring (lecture) performances, talks, meditation sessions, and temporary installations by artists including Sana Ghobbeh, Isshaq Albarbary, Benjamin Verhoeven, Amine Lahrach, and Paloma Bouhana.

Silent Times runs from Saturday, October 26th until Sunday, March 30th, 2025, but we would love to welcome you at the opening on Friday, October 25th! Come and discover the exhibition and meet some of the participating artists in person while enjoying a drink. We open the doors at 6:00 PM, will raise a silent toast at 8:30 PM, and close the event at 11:00 PM.

Also on October 25th, our neighbors at MORPHO will present the solo exhibition FALLING ASLEEP ON A PLANE by Federico Tosi in the MORPHO Refectory, and we inaugurate a work by Rosario Aninat as an intervention in Yoel Pytowski's exhibition The Porous Lodge.
