We are delighted to welcome you to the opening of Copper thread, Rubber thread, Sugar thread — the long-awaited solo exhibition by Sammy Baloji at Kunsthal Extra City.

Baloji — who will also present work at the Venice Biennale — brings together new works in which tapestries, text and sound converge. His practice intertwines colonial history with contemporary questions of power, representation and image-making.

A key highlight is Seeing Katharina (2026): a monumental tapestry presented here for the first time. Starting from one of the earliest known depictions of a Black woman, who is believed to have lived in Antwerp, Baloji reworks this image into a powerful contemporary presence.

Join us on Friday 17 April from 19:00, in the presence of the artist and curator Samuel Saelemakers. From 21:00, SAHЯA will take over with an energetic DJ set.
