For years, the Mediterranean Sea has been swallowing up the lives of migrants who venture across in improvised boats. In response to this tragic reality, Michèle Magema presents her performance 'Ce que la mer ne m'a pas pris' ('What the sea did not take off me'). In scenes full of symbolism, Magema combines various objects, music, song and choreographic gestures, evoking the bodies that are forever buried in the ocean.
In her practice, multidisciplinary artist Michele Magema (CD, 1977) combines different media; photography, video, installation, performance and drawing. She often interweaves individual, personal stories with the collective. The performance 'Ce que la mer ne m'a pas pris' complements her solo exhibition 'Watermarks, silent traces', on view until July 11th in the chapel of Kunsthal Extra City.
