‘The Lesson of the Vine’ is a public-art work for a village on the Moselle river in Germany. It is based on the question of how our evolving relationship with nature can be made manifest for a local community of insiders and new-comers. Rut Blees Luxemburg will talk about her previous public artworks in London, Heathrow and Nantes, sharing the potential and pitfalls of making work in the public sphere.
Rut Blees Luxemburg’s work as an artist and photographer concerns the representation of the city and the phenomenon of the urban. Her work ranges from large-scale photographic works, public art installations to operatic mis-en-scene. Her photographic work is in the collection of Tate Modern, the V&A and the Centre Pompidou. She has recently completed a major public artwork for the façade of Westminster City Hall, London: The Silver Forest. RBL is a Reader in Urban Aesthetics at the Royal College of Art and is founder and co-director of the experimental art production space, FILET.
