Extra Academy is a spontaneous alliance of Extra City, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Sint-Lucas Antwerpen.
The guest speakers on 22 November are Erik Hagoort and Ilse Bulhof.
A brainstorming session about reciprocity in art, encountering and philosophy.
This edition of Extra Academy will be introduced by the philosophers Erik Hagoort and Ilse Bulthof and will depart from ethical questions about the so-called ‘encounter art’.
Ilse Bulthof (1932) is a philosopher and publisher of books about among others Nietzsche, Dilthey, Darwin and Freud. She wrote many articles about historical and scientific philosophical subjects. In her book “From content to attitude” (1955) she developed an ethics of retaking. Recently she started working on a volume of essays about among others ‘dynamic reciprocity’, from the perspective of classical Chinese Daoism.
Erik Hagoort (1962) works on a promotional research about the ethics of encounter art. This research is supported by the readership of Visual Arts of the Academy of Arts and Design St. Joost (Den Bosch/Breda, NL), where he teaches the MA students Visual Arts in theory. An important part of his research is contributed to the symmetry-based discourse on reciprocity, that dominates the theory and practice of encounter art. Together with the artist and gallerist Caroline Picard (Chicago, USA) he's leading the blog Art & Reciprocity.
