Extra Academy #14: Bo Christian Larsson

29.04.2013, 19:00 — 23:00 Lecture

Extra Academy is a spontaneous alliance of Extra City, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Sint-Lucas Antwerpen.

The guest speaker on April 29 is Bo Christian Larsson.

Symbols and rituals are two returning elements in the art of Bo Christian Larsson, in which the use of symbols is an attempt to make the world more visible and in which ritual acts are an effort to order the world. With these tools Larsson brings the search of humankind to an organized and identifiable level, to structure the formless in front of the footlight. Instead of taking symbols for granted, Larsson distorts them until we’re not sure of their origine any longer. They get stript from their specific, original cultural meaning but at the same time loaded with the possibility of a thousand new ideas.

Bo Christian Larsson (b. 1976 in Kristinehamn, Sweden) lives and works in Berlin and Ragnarby, Sweden. He studied at the AKI College for Arts, Enschede, the Netherlands. Larsson had solo expositions in Borås Museum of Contemporary art, Sweden; Kunstverein Braunschweig; Bregenzer Kunstverein, Austria; Ludlow38, New York and Gallery Bo Bjerggaard, Copenhagen. His work was shown among others in the following group shows: Pinakothek der Moderne Munich; Kunstbau Lenbachhaus Munich; Shiryaevo Biennale, Russia; Hayward Gallery, London; and Arario Gallery, Cheonan, Korea. In 2009 Larsson received the ‘Philipp Otto Runge Residency Scholarship’ and resided at Kunst:Raum Sylt Quelle.
