For Extra City’s 2026 artist’s edition, Cally Spooner has created a special, limited-run test version LP. Deadtime (Test Press) features five superimposed soundworks produced by Spooner in the early 2020s using the artist’s original 63-page DEAD TIME score.

Between 2018 and 2024, the score served as a divination deck to which all of Spooner’s burning questions could be posed. A score acting as an oracle, a north star.

When the score first came hastily together in October 2018, little could the artist have anticipated that its 63 scribbled texts, drawings, and laser prints would give rise to sixteen sonic-choreographic works over the subsequent six years.

But everything runs its course. In September 2026, Spooner was ready to bury DEAD TIME, with a funeral performed in the context of The Image Generator festival at Extra City, Antwerp. From this ceremony emerged Deadtime (Test Press), an object – to quote astrologer Rob Brezsny’s horoscope for DEAD TIME (a scorpio) – “poised at a threshold between what’s comfortably familiar and excitingly possible.”
