Extra Academy is a spontaneous alliance of Extra City, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Sint-Lucas Antwerpen.
The guest speaker on November 19 is Corinne Diserens.
Corinne Diserens is art historian and served as curator at the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM) in Valencia between 1989 and 1993, when she organized retrospectives on the work of Fischli &Weiss, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Gordon Matta-Clark and Eva Hesse.
From 1996 to 1999 she directed the Musées de Marseille and showed Dieter Roth, Lygia Clark, Carl Andre,Trisha Brown and Oskar Schlemmer.
She then became director of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes (2003-2006), putting on retrospectives of Vito Acconci and Francis Alys in 2004, then became head of the Museion in Bolzano from 2007 to 2008, inaugurating this space with an exhibition on “The Peripheral Gaze and Collective Body.”
As an independent curator, retrospectives she has organized include Philippe Thomas (MACBA, Barcelona, 2000), Marcel Broodthaers (Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, 2001), David Goldblatt (MACBA, Barcelona, 2001), Dan Graham (Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, 2001), Jean-Luc Moulène and Anri Sala (São Paulo Bienal, 2002) and, recently, Paola Yacoub (Beirut Art Center, 2011).
