09.09.2017, 15:00 — 16:00 Lecture

The well known and important Egyptian journalist Lina Attalah will open the lecture program of ‘Unravelling Citizenship’ with a text titled ‘A tale of three disappearances’. She will address the ways in which state power is constructed, deepened and internalized, but also resisted, escaped or dispossessed, through an intricate register of hope and despair, of attachment and detachment.

By means of personal experiences Attalah addresses the fundament on which society is build: power. How to act as a citizen within a web of local and geopolitical power relations?

Lina Attalah is the publisher of Mada Masr, a Cairo-based news website. She has been a journalist for over a decade, covering primarily Egypt and the region, including the Syrian revolution and the Iran latest presidential elections. She was previously the chief editor of Egypt Independent, another Egyptian leading English-language news media.
